Thinning Hair: Regowth Possible?
Hair thinning can be a disheartening sight, leaving you wondering if a full head of hair is just a distant memory. In this segment of our interview series, trichologist Iain offers some hope, but also emphasises the importance of understanding the cause behind the thinning.
Not All Thinning is Created Equal:
Iain reminds us that "thinning" can have different causes. Telogen effluvium, a temporary form of hair shedding, is a common culprit. Often, it stems from easily correctable issues like low iron levels. Addressing the underlying deficiency can lead to hair regrowth.
Even more temporary forms of telogen effluvium exist, triggered by sudden events like childbirth or a car accident. In these cases, the body usually corrects itself naturally, and hair regrowth occurs without intervention.
The Challenge of Long-Term Thinning:
However, for those who have experienced prolonged thinning, regrowth becomes more complex. While some hair growth may be possible, it's unlikely to completely restore your former hair density.
This underscores the importance of early intervention. Identifying the cause of thinning early allows for treatment that can potentially slow down further hair loss and promote some regrowth.
In the upcoming segments of our interview series, we'll explore how trichologists diagnose different types of hair loss and delve into potential solutions. We'll also discuss innovative tools like HairMax low-level laser therapy (LLLT) devices and their role in promoting hair growth.
